LaGrange area dominates as Lyons wins title and Nazareth takes 4th in state
The La Grange area proved to be elite in Illinois baseball, producing two top-four finishes in the Illinois High School Association Baseball Tournament.

Nazareth won the state summer championship, which is not affiliated with the IHSA, in 2010 and Lyons followed with a spring title in 2011.
“Both programs have a lot of mutual respect for each other,” Lyons coach George Ushela said. “It’s kind of nice that we have the 4A and 3A and we don’t have to compete with them in the playoffs. When they won in the summer I called their coach (Lee Milano) and told him to enjoy it. Whether it’s in the summer or the spring, these titles are special.”
Nazareth coach Lee Milano had a hunch this could be a special year.
“A lot of these players play on the same travel team, so they know each other,” Milano said. “We knew these teams would be pretty good.”
Lyons (37-4) scored five runs in the first three innings against Providence to help win its third state title and first since 2003. Junior Steve Heilenbach had three hits and senior pitcher Connor Cuff improved to 11-0 and drove in four runs.

One night, almost ten years ago, while I was coming home late from a gig, I was tuned into Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario's community radio station. To be honest, my band, the kramdens , had just released our first disc and I heard that we were going to be played.
We were, eventually, I guess. I'm not sure, really, because just after I had tuned in, I heard a song that literally caused me to pull over.
