Caveman boot/belt knife in Flintknapping - General Discussion Forum

I decided to make something for myself this week. I liked the idea of having a Stone Age-style knife but wanted to have it as a boot or belt knife. Not wanting to make a modern sheath or use any metal, I had to get creative.

For the knife, I abo-knapped basalt and hafted the resulting blade to a moose antler tine. I used resin glue and deer sinew to marry the two pieces. For the sheath, I covered vegetable tan leather with rawhide and laced it with waxed linen cord. For the clip, I sawed and filed out a piece of moose antler palm. This was then glued and sewn to the sheath. It worked out beautifully.

The final touch was painting the sheath. I chose to replicate images from Lascaux Cave in France. I painted with a mixture of pigment and hide. Hope everyone likes it.
