The Toronto Star has learned Maple Leaf goaltender James Reimer , who sparked a second-half turnaround for Toronto last season after beginning the season fourth on the team’s depth chart, has signed a multi-year contract with the team.

Sources say the deal is similar to a three-year deal signed last year by L.A. goalie Jonathan Quick , worth $1.8 million per season.

Just prior to publication of this edition of Hockey Hearsay, the extension is believed to be worth three years at a total of $5.4M.

The Blue Jackets aren't waiting for the NHL entry draft this month to start work on what they hope will be a summer of blockbuster deals.

Multiple NHL sources have told The Columbus Dispatch that the Blue Jackets and Philadelphia Flyers have discussed a trade that would send Flyers center Jeff Carter , an All-Star in 2009, to Columbus for a top-six forward and the No. 8 overall pick in this year's draft. That top-six forward, presumably, is 21-year-old Blue Jackets winger Jake Voracek, a restricted free agent.

Though it could occur sooner, it's likely such a trade wouldn't be completed until the first round of the entry draft is held on June 24 in St. Paul, Minn.

But the likelihood of the deal took a sizable step forward on Tuesday, when the Flyers acquired the rights to goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov from Phoenix.

Bryzgalov is looking for a five-year contract in the area of $6million per season, according to reports in Philadelphia, a figure that would put the Flyers well over the NHL's projected salary cap.

Carter is signed for the next 11 seasons with a $5.27million annual cap hit, according to capgeek.com. Unlike many of the Flyers top players, he does not have a no-trade clause.

The Dispatch believes the term of Carter's contract - he's signed through 2020-21 - is a bit risky, but the Blue Jackets have reached a point where bold moves are needed. Attendance plummeted last season by more than 2,000 fans per game as they missed the playoffs for the ninth time in 10 seasons.

Carter, 26, would give the Blue Jackets something they've long coveted - a large, offensively-gifted center. He has scored 115 goals the past three seasons, including a career-high 46 goals in 2008-09.

Blue Jackets general manager Scott Howson and Flyers GM Paul Holmgren have been talking trade since last January, and the talks were rekindled last month at the NHL draft combine in suburban Toronto.

It will not be easy for Howson to part with Voracek, who was his first draft pick after becoming GM of the Blue Jackets in June 2007. He has long held Voracek's potential in high regard.

What ibanez electric guitar is better? GART50 or ART100?

I will be buying my guitar soon. The problem is I do not know what is better. I recently heard two sounds, and I wanted other opinions. The ART100 is cleaner in sound. Much cleaner and almost no noise due to the low impedance collection is an advantage when played with a distortion unit. ART100 suggest that but you can try and decide.
