This catch came in 70 to 90 feet of water with the majority of hits coming at 20 to 35 feet below the surface on Michigan Stingers. The near shore brown trout fishing continues to be good, even though the strong winds have made fishing more difficult. Trolling with down riggers during the early morning with small spoons in 30 to 60 feet of water is still producing fish. The browns have spread out, so keep covering water until fish are found. A few salmon are being taken in deeper water, 120-160 feet.SALMON RIVER Bass fishing has been good this week. Lots of fish being taken on artificial baits, such as Senko worms (bubblegum color), along with crayfish and minnows. Perch bite is starting to pick up again for anglers using fathead minnows. Try about 40 feet. Lots of northern pike being caught on lures (Husky Jerks or Smithwick Rogue are working). Walleye bite continues to be weak. Try using a horsehair jig tipped with a night crawler.
