Harry Potter Seventh Book
Harry Potter Going Online, JK Rowling Announces
Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has announced a new online venture that could popularize the e-book format.
Rowling is the success story behind the Harry Potter phenomenon, which has resulted in 400 million books being sold worldwide, according to its publisher. However, with the most recent, seventh book in the series purported to be the last, and next month’s “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2″ reportedly the last film in the franchise, fans of all things Hogwarts may have been chomping at the bit for something more, and it appears Rowling has acquiesced.
According to announcements promoting the venture, “Pottermore.com” will be many things: an online Harry Potter store, the first and only place to download the novels in e-form, and a continuation of the Harry Potter story that will rely on submissions (or at least suggestions) from readers. The exact relationship between users of the website and its content was not made completely clear in an online video announcement by Rowling.
“It is the same story with a few crucial additions, the most important one is you. Pottermore will be built, in part, by you,” Rowling said in the announcement. “The digital generation will be able to enjoy a safe, unique, online reading experience built around the Harry Potter books.”
Rowling steadfastly maintains that she does not intend to write an additional Harry Potter novel, which has also given rise to speculation about whether the site will be primarily fueled by ‘fan fiction.’
According to news releases, Pottermore.com will be activated July 31, but only accessible to the first million fans who have submitted their email addresses. In October the site will become completely accessible, and feature language options for English, Spanish, French, Italian and German.
