Local boats looking good at Block Island
Heading the list is Rush, skippered by Annapolis resident Bill Sweetser, which holds first place in J/109 one-design class after three days of racing. Rush placed second in Race 1 then tacked on two straight bullets to build a comfortable eight point lead over Dragonfly (Skip Young) in the 15-boat class.
Tsunami, which is campaigned by Bud Dailey, Todd Olds and Preben Ostberg, leads Farr One-Design class on the strength of two bullets and a third. The Annapolis Yacht Club-berthed Farr 40 has a two-point advantage on Barking Mad, which is a Farr 30.
Numerous professional sailors are involved with the IRC 1 class, which is comprised entirely of high-tech TP52 racing machines. Flying Jenny 7, owned by David and Sandra Askew of Annapolis, stands in third place with nine points with a scoring line of 2-4-3.
