Explorers Web Quest
Summertime, and finding new shows on cable is easy
Someone should write a summer version of "My Favorite Things" and include verses about banana Popsicles, sidewalk chalk melting in the rain, patio dining, picking strawberries, church festivals, farmers markets and, oh yeah, cable programming.
The end Sunday night of "The Killing" and "Game of Thrones," both of which have been renewed for second seasons, is just a prelude to a summer's worth of programs, some marginal, some awful, but all of them original.
It started Sunday night with the premieres of "Drop Dead Diva," "Falling Skies" and "Ryan & Tatum: The O'Neals."
I'll review some of them when I get the urge or need to fill the page. But for now, here's a list of new and returning summer shows, mostly on cable, with a few network shows added.
Tuesday: "Hoarders," 8 p.m., A&E.
Thursday: "Futurama," 9 p.m., Comedy Central; "Suits," a college dropout with a photographic memory helps a lawyer, 9 p.m., and "Burn Notice," 8 p.m., USA; "Wilfred," where some see a dog, Elijah Wood sees a man in a dog suit, based on an Australian series, 9 p.m., and "Louie," 9:30 p.m., FX; "Expedition Impossible," an "Amazing Race" ripoff, 8 p.m., and "Rookie Blue," 9 p.m., ABC.
Sunday: "Leverage," 8 p.m., TNT; "True Blood," 8 p.m., HBO; "Celebrity Rehab," with Michael Lohan, Amy Fisher, Steve Adler and Bai Ling, 8 p.m., VH1; "The Marriage Ref," 9 p.m., NBC.
June 27: "Weeds," 9 p.m., and "The Big C," 9:30 p.m., Showtime.
June 29: "Love in the Wild," an adventure dating show, 9 p.m., NBC; "Melissa & Joey," 7 p.m., and "State of Georgia," Raven Symone as an actress in NYC, 7:30 p.m., ABC Family; "Royal Pains," 8 p.m., and "Necessary Roughness," with Callie Thorne as a therapist for a football team, 9 p.m., USA.
June 30: "Extreme Chefs," 9 p.m. Food Network (there's a sneak peak at 9:30 p.m. June 26).
July 5: "Teen Mom," 9 p.m., MTV.
July 7: "Big Brother," 8 p.m., CBS.
July 8: "Torchwood," 9 p.m., Starz.
July 10: "Curb Your Enthusiasm," Larry David goes to NYC, 9 p.m., HBO.
