Renovation Day 112 – 116

Many apologies to readers who’ve constantly been checking my blog for updates. Had been rather busy running around (literally) of late, checking out sales for household items, IPT, checking out schools for my kids, doing lots of finalisation for renovations, etc etc… 

Well, renovations in my house is near completion already. Some major updates on the completed works are: Bomb Shelter Feature Wall, Living Room Feature Wall and installation of airconditioning in the house…

08/04/2011 (Friday):

Mr Lee informed me that both feature walls will be installed starting from mid-week. Checked back with him and he said the items have been moved in the house and the actual installation will be done on Friday. I had something on in the morning, and only reached our house after lunch hours.

When I reached, the whole house was in a mess! What I could see was the structure of the bomb shelter feature wall in place. There were many pieces of wood, laminates, would-be doors, drawers, work tools lying around the entire living room and kitchen… Mr Lee’s carpenter, Peter, was working on the Bomb Shelter Feature Wall while waiting for an extra pair of hands to come help with the Living Room Feature Wall. Mr Murugesh Mannai, Mr Lee’s worker from India, arrived at around 2pm.

They brought the Living Room Feature Wall down (Row 1, 3rd picture below), to paste laminate on the wall-to-be. Apparantly, they would appreciate another extra pair of hands, reason being, my Living Room Feature Wall is very big (I requested it this size, as big as possible, from Mr Lee). So, I was roped in to SUPPORT. I was assigned to assist to perform the most simple tasks; SUPPORTthe middle portion of the wood, help SUPPORT the center of the laminate when they were trying to paste the laminate to the board, SUPPORT the Feature Wall while they drilled holes to secure the board to the wall, etc… Something fresh and fun to me, I haven’t been doing any capentary works since Sec 2′s Design & Technology lessons ended…

After the Living Room Feature Wall was completed, Peter proceeded to work on the Bomb Shelter Feature Wall again. Peter’s attitude is a starke contrast to the electrician’s. He worked relentlessly, fine-tuning each and every hinge to make his work look perfect. I didn’t have to tell him “hey, this looks slightly higher on the left than the right” or anything like that. Even a perfectionist like me was ready to accept the work as-is, he went on to adjust the alignment of the door such that the thin iron bars separating the laminates run perfectly. This is what I call “professionalism”. Both of them did quite a bit of OT, all of us stayed till 8pm+, to do cleaning up of the mess as well.
