Ann Coulter Will Be Speaking at Yavapai College in September
"Your mission, should you decide to accept it," are familiar words to Mission Impossible fans back in the late '60's and early '70's, who would eagerly listen for the next sentence describing the impossible task set before them.
Back in April, that task would be, "Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to bring Ann Coulter to speak in Prescott, Arizona."
The idea was the brainchild of Bruce Cutter, a longtime Counter fan. Cutter is the academic advisor to the Yavapai College Republicans (YCR). His son, David, is the President of the organization, and his wife, Kerry, is a member as well as a full time student at Yavapai College. The YCR is a relatively new organization on campus, but the members were very excited at the prospect.
It would take a lot of money - close to $20,000. And not much time. They were starting in towards the end of May, and they wanted to bring Coulter to Prescott in September. They contacted the Young America's Foundation for booking information, and with that, they were on their way.
"We started fundraising around the end of May," Cutter said. They spoke to groups like the Republican Women of Prescott (the first group to help), they had businesses donate and purchase an ad in the program. They sold tickets to a special meet & greet with Coulter. In short, they collected contributions from everyone they could find.
Now, just a couple of months later, having raised close to $20,000, YCR has a signed contract and a definite date: September 29.
Although the event will be free to the public, those that bought tickets will be able to have better seats, and meet Coulter afterwards during a VIP reception.
Date: September 29
Time: 6 pm
Place: Yavapai Community College
A friend from high school left this post on her Facebook wall:
"My 15 year old just told me that he would die unless he got an Alienware PC. I'll miss him."
As one can imagine, this elicited many comments, such as, "Funniest thing I have read all day! Thanks for the chuckle."
But, perhaps the best response was the person who wrote, "You could always get one of those great posters that say: "TEENAGERS! Tired of being harassed and deprived by your parents? ACT NOW!! Move out, get a job, pay your own way while you still know everything!" :-)"
The poster can be found here ; but, unfortunately it's sold out.
