Dr. Sandra Fearrington, MD , board-certified plastic surgeon and medical director of dermatechMD in Raleigh, NC, announced today the addition of FDA approved SmartLipoTM Laser Liposuction to her Triangle Area (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill) practice.

SmartLipoTM is a form of minimally invasive laser body contouring that is done in office and offers certain advantages over traditional liposuction procedures, most notably quicker recovery time due to laser coagulation of tissue and blood vessels (less trauma), no general anesthesia and skin tightening.

SmartLipoTM is one of the latest and most advanced methods to safely, evenly and permanently remove unwanted fat and tissue. SmartLipoTM uses dual wavelength lasers to seal blood vessels as it zaps fat, so there is less swelling, bruising and bleeding, resulting in fewer risks and less recovery time. Many patients are able to return to work the very next day.

During the procedure, the areas to be treated are numbed with local tumescent anesthesia (numbing fluid) so patients can fully relax and discomfort is very limited. The laser is introduced through the skin with a 1-2 mm cannula to bring fat cells to the surface of the epidermis (skin), specifically suctioning unwanted fat on contact with a gentle, back-and-forth “fanning” motion. The SmartLipoTM laser has also been shown to promote tissue tightening through bulk thermal heating and tissue coagulation (skin tightening).
