The first character means ‘danger.’ Clearly we are facing some uncertain and possibly dangerous times ahead. But the second character means ‘opportunity.’ “So here, on the Ides of June, we sit,” DeFelippis said. “Over 2,000 years since the death of Julius Caesar, exactly 30 days before the release of the final ‘Harry Potter’ movie and over 15 years since the world first met Buzz Lightyear of ‘Toy Story’ fame, right now, we, the North Penn High School Class of 2011, get to witness, as the math nerd in me screams, the geometrical wonder of our own commencement. ... Let’s make sure to seek out new missions and traverse new galaxies with the full support of everything and everyone we know so far behind us. As Buzz Lightyear would say, venture ‘to infinity and beyond!’”

 Wynton Jake Somerville, the senior class president, gave a warmly received speech. Quoting Robert Hutchins, a former president of the University of Chicago, he said, “The object of education is to prepare the young to educate themselves throughout their lives. ... Our learning has truly just begun and we will take what we have been taught at this school to continue to educate ourselves. All the times when we asked our math teachers, ‘When are we going to use this in real life?’ will be answered promptly as we move from adolescence to adulthood.”
