Recorrer Iquitos

Toda ciudad es una historia colectiva y toda historia son hechos al azar que se ordenan cronológicamente. Una ciudad es lo que se dice o rememora de ella, lo que salta inmediatamente cuando se activa el mecanismo del recuerdo y queda como una imagen pétrea, casi eterna en nuestros pensamientos.

Alguien me invoca a escribir sobre Iquitos. ¿Cuáles son los lugares que deberíamos conocer al llegar a la ciudad? me inquiere, entusiasmada y ávida de datos, ante la inminencia de la fiesta mayor de la Amazonía. La verdad, no sabría decirle exactamente cuáles son los lugares que debería visitar. Al fin y al cabo, cada lugar son también nuestras propias proyecciones.

Si yo pudiera rememorar qué cosa es lo primero que me salta a la mente cuando me dicen Iquitos son los sitios que formaron parte de su mitología. Varios están a simple vista (el Malecón, la Casa de Fierro, Bellavista), pero lo son también aquellos que forman parte de la cultura pop de nuestra historia.

Hice una pequeña encuesta en el Twitter sobre los lugares que la gente debería conocer de forma ineludible al visitar a Iquitos. La convocatoria fue increíble.  Hubo menciones a Nanay y a Quistococha, como también a la Biblioteca Amazónica, al Margaritaville o al Zorrito. Hay gente que se acuerda de los bares de Punchana (entre ellos el de Huerequeque) como algunas canchitas del Parque Zonal al mediodía. Un tuitero que vivió por esos lares es, incluso más detallista: recomienda ir a la parte baja de Belén a las 9 de la mañana (o, si se puede, a las 6 a.m.) y hacer el mismo recorrido en la parte, entre 4 y 6 de la tarde.

No se puede estar en Iquitos ni recorrerlo un día en moto, indica alguien.

Yo replico, inmediatamente, que no debería estar uno en Iquitos sin recorrerlo de punta a punta en la ruta circular de los ómnibus Etuisa. Y recorrer la carretera hacia Nauta.

Pero la gente se acuerda también de lugares que son como anexos inmediatos, que no forman parte directa de la ciudad. Existen quienes recuerdan con mucho cariño a los boras, a la unión de los ríos Marañón y Ucayali o un paseo por el Amazonas en algún crucero de lujo.

Hay gente que recuerda la primera vez que le dio el primer beso a su pareja y gente que comenta, divertida, los atracones que se dio en el Chifa Wai Ming, hoy Long Fung. Hay quienes quiere comer sushi regional en La Taberna del Cauchero. Hay gente que recuerda chapes locos en El Refugio y señoras que recomiendan con mucho fervor la Iglesia del Divino Niño. Incluso marcas como La Favorita o El Shambo son mencionadas todavía como, conjuros mágicos de alegría.
